SALARY:
The salary range for this position is $45,797.
84 to $68,329.
73 for Schedule A, and $45,797.
84 to $64,913.
23 for Schedule B.
For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range.
For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater.
Judiciary employees hired prior to June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule A.
Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule B.

This position is for a one-year term.

The Burlington Vicinage is seeking a well-organized Judge's Secretary 1 with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to support a Superior Court Judge.
Example of Duties The selected individual will provide technical assistance to the Judge; transcribe from a Dictaphone; distribute and conform judges orders and decisions; maintain workflow in/out of judicial chambers; proofread typed material for accuracy and correct punctuation, spelling and grammar; coordinate and communicate judge's schedule with division administration and case management personnel; prepare and submit records; manage incoming and outgoing communications, including mail, telephone and conference calls; type contracts or legal documents; type routine correspondence, such as forms letters or standard replies to inquiries; compose and type non-routine correspondence; answer inquiries from attorneys, staff, and public; file written documents; enter data in Judiciary-wide computer systems; operate computer terminal or personal computer for information processing; moderate virtual court events; regulate the flow of work in accordance with operating schedules; and other duties as assigned.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook would be helpful.
Qualifications Three (3) years of experience in an office environment performing a variety of clerical and support services to include keyboarding and one or more of the following:
preparing and analyzing legal documents, processing legal or other documents, transcribing information, and scheduling meetings or appointments.
Substitution:
Successful completion of a clerical training program with a minimum of 700 classroom training hours or 30 semester hour credits in secretarial science may be substituted for one (1) year of experience indicated above.
Course work must include typing skills, methods, and procedures; other courses may include, but are not limited to, office procedures, word processing, and business English.
Testing:
Applicants selected to interview must pass an appointing authority administered examination to demonstrate typing skills of at least 40 words per minute or possess proof of having taken the required skills test (for example, the New Jersey Civil Service Commission or New Jersey Judiciary typing proficiency certificate).
Note:
Knowledge of legal terminology and working knowledge of Microsoft Office is helpful.
Supplemental Information Driver's License:
Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Authorization to Work:
US citizenship is not required.
Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
